Joseph Sam

Mr. Joseph Sam, Mono Lake Paiute and Stewart alum has passed. Mr. Sam attended Stewart Indian School from 1946-1949. While at Stewart, Mr. Sam worked at the Jacks Valley ranch and was involved in baseball and football as well as being a self-taught musician and playing in bands. After graduating from Stewart, he served in the US Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. Mr. Sam and his family attended powwows and tribal functions in the area, as well as UNR football games. In 2009, Mr. Sam designed the Stewart Alumni float for the Nevada Day Parade. He will be missed.
